Kemble's journey

Kemble PCC agreed to register as an Eco Church in October 2022. We completed the survey on the A Rocha EcoChurch site and identified areas of strength (worship and teaching) and areas for development (all the rest).

We began with some simple actions, such as a regular item in Parish News and participation in the Love Your Burial Ground Week with Churches Count on Nature in June, when we tried to spot and identify the many species which live in our churchyard. The first year we observed and named 45 plant species and 11 animal species in the churchyard, as well as various flying insects which didn’t wait to be identified. The up to date survey can be seen in the Love Your Burial Ground section. Churchyard survey

We regularly take part in No Mow May and have agreed a cutting regime with the Parish Council, which will leave areas of the churchyard uncut until late summer.

Kemble achieved a Bronze Award in September 2024.

Bugopolis

In September 2025 we created a bug house in the churchyard.

Churches Count on Nature

Every June we participate in the Love Your Burial Ground: Churches Count on Nature, which is a survey of wildlife spotted in the churchyard.

Yew tree

Kemble has an ancient yew tree in the churchyard.

Partnership with Kemble Community Gardens

In 2025 Kemble Community Gardens and Kemble EcoChurch began a joint project to create a sensory garden in the Community Gardens.
